Dakota Johnson’s boyfriend Role Model wants to become a single dad

Singer-songwriter Role Model has raised eyebrows after revealing that he wants to become a single father. 

The 29-year-old, who is reportedly dating actress Dakota Johnson, made the surprising admission during an appearance on Jake Shane’s Therapuss podcast this week.

‘My dream has always been to be a single father, and to have a daughter… to raise a daughter by myself would be really fun,’ he said. 

‘I want a daughter that’s ideally mine, and then I thank whoever had it for me,’ he continued, before adding that he’s open to having a ‘surrogate’.

‘Maybe that’d be destructive for the kid, but I just want to raise a child by myself because then you can just mold them into your best friend,’ he said. 

His comments divided opinion online, with actress Jameela Jamil writing a simple ‘No’ on People magazine’s Instagram post about the interview.

‘Maybe try it with someone else first,’ wrote podcaster Ryan Bailey, while conservative pundit Tomi Lahren wrote a simple, ‘Huh?’

However, some others defended The Longest Goodbye singer, with actor Noah Castillero writing, ‘Wow this is so sweet. Aftersun movie vibes.’

‘You guys do realize he jokes all the time right? And also adoption IS a thing,’ added a fan.

A third fan also said that the indie-pop singer may have been joking, arguing, ‘This is why context is so important. His personality is formed from making jokes and doing bits.’

They added, ‘He is a great person. I promise he’s not someone to be skeptical about.’

Other fans were left confused by the fact that Role Model talked about becoming a single dad despite supposedly being in a relationship. 

‘Wasn’t he with Dakota Johnson?’ asked one, while another wrote, ‘Guess Dakota’s out the picture in his future.’

Daily Mail has contacted reps for Role Model and Johnson for comment.

Johnson, 36, and Role Model, real name Tucker Pillsbury, were spotted kissing in a Los Feliz parking lot in Los Angeles back in April in footage captured by TMZ. 

The two had just enjoyed dinner with friends at Little Dom’s where they were spotted holding hands and grabbing each other playfully throughout the evening. 

Johnson and her younger man first sparked romance buzz in December when they were pictured looking warm and cozy while having dinner with friends.

She was reportedly seen kissing Role Model at her New Year’s Eve party where they were ‘inseparable’ all evening, according to Entertainment Tonight. 

‘They were kissing, dancing and holding onto each other. They looked incredibly happy, cute, and sweet together,’ a source told the newsmagazine at the time.

Fans were confused by Role Model’s comments about single fatherhood, with one asking, ‘Isn’t he with Dakota Johnson?’ 

On March 28, the pair attended Paul McCartney’s concert at the Fonda Theatre, Johnson looking comfortable but classy in a long black silk dress and Role Model equally chill in a black T-shirt and jeans, E! News reported.

Johnson’s attachment to The Longest Goodbye singer comes months after the actress and Chris Martin ended their eight-year relationship in June 2025.

Role Model was previously in a relationship with influencer Emma Chamberlain from 2020 to 2023.

The Los Angeles-born singer is best known for his hit Sally, When the Wine Runs Out’, which reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult Alternative Airplay chart.
